A twin girl with partial hearing loss is excelling at learning sign language with an early intervention specialist at The Warren Center.
Emma and her twin sister were born prematurely at 29 weeks.
After birth, Emma was diagnosed with bilateral sensorineural hearing loss, which means she has hearing loss in both ears. Emma has moderate to severe hearing loss in her right ear and moderate to mild hearing loss in her left ear.
Emma is now 2.5 years old and is receiving services from an early intervention specialist. She started her services at The Warren Center in May 2021. Since then, she’s been learning various ASL signs with her early intervention specialist, Stephanie Mitchell.
Mitchell has been teaching Emma basic signs, including colors, letters, and animals. You can watch a video of Emma working with Mitchell in the social media player below.
Emma’s twin sister often joins her during her sessions with Mitchell and is watching as Emma learns the sign language. She’s picked up a few signs, which will help her to better communicate with her sister. The sisters are incredibly close and don’t even like being in a different room from one another!
