Having a disability while also raising five children is no easy feat.
Julissa is a single mom who has Down syndrome. She has five children, including two twin babies who also have Down syndrome. She now relies on The Warren Center to help her provide the best lives possible for her twin babies.
An early intervention specialist visits twins Mael and Melixxy weekly to work on developmental exercises. The specialist also talks with Julissa to discuss what improvements the mother has seen in her babies.
The Warren Center’s therapists are experts at identifying and providing solutions for critical needs. One time, at the end of a therapy session with the ECI specialist, the specialist ran to her car to pull out two shiny, brand new car seats for Mael and Melixxy, which is something they did not have.
Our Family Education and Support team has helped Julissa by connecting her with food pantries in the area. This ensures Julissa’s five children would be getting their bellies filled with food so they can continue learning and growing. Julissa could then focus on learning to be the best mother possible to her five children.
The Warren Center is so much more than just a therapy provider. In addition to helping connect Julissa and her family to food pantries, the agency has given the family resources on transportation for appointments, assisted with disability benefits, helped with school registration and supplies, provided the family with school supplies and even signed the family up for the Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program.
With Julissa’s family, The Warren Center is aiming to provide support, resources and guidance so that her children can thrive and reach their fullest potentials, a dream Julissa has always had for her children.
Julissa is not the only one. Each family has a unique story and requires individualized care. The Warren Center vows that no child will ever be turned away.
