Meet Sammy, a 2-year-old with Down syndrome, who has become a symbol of the impact that love, dedication, and community support can have on a child’s life.
Sammy’s therapy journey
Sammy faced challenges typical of his condition, exhibiting hypotonicity (low tone) in his extremities and trunk. Standing and taking steps were daunting tasks, and he found comfort in side-stepping along furniture, leaning over the sofa. However, Sammy’s family refused to let these challenges define his journey.
Sammy’s occupational therapist at The Warren Center, Cherie, introduced a harness to provide Sammy with the sensory input and security he needed to stand and take steps. The journey was documented in a heartwarming video that captured Sammy’s first hesitant attempts with the harness that you can watch in the social media post below. Within a week, Sammy progressed to using a walker without the harness, confidently navigating his surroundings.

EPAM Systems’ gift of independence
Sammy’s story is not just one of determination and family support but also a testament to the impactful collaboration between The Warren Center and EPAM Systems, which is a software development company. As a part of their commitment to making a positive difference in the lives of children facing physical challenges, EPAM Systems donated specially adapted ride-on cars to eight children at The Warren Center, including Sammy.
EPAM Systems collaborated with The Warren Center through the Go Baby Go Program, a sponsorship initiative aimed at creating adapted ride-on cars for children with physical challenges. These cars, personalized by therapists at The Warren Center, are designed to promote independent mobility and social interaction.
