Born with congenital and chromosomal abnormalities, including an extra thumb on her left hand, Sofia faced formidable challenges with feeding and in her motor skills. Thanks to the generous support of our donors, Sofia enrolled in both The Warren Center’s specialized skills training program and in occupational therapy for over a year.
Along with The Warren Center’s therapists – a full team of specialists enlisted to work with Sofia, including a cardiologist, endocrinologist, neurologist, gastroenterologist, geneticist, and developmental pediatrician. In the process, Sofia received surgery to remove the extra thumb and received specializes orthotic shoes to aid in walking.
Due to this comprehensive therapy program, Sofia can now use both hands in activities. She is in the formative stages of walking and her oral motor skills have improved to where she is now ready to receive speech therapy focused on expressive communication. Thanks to your generosity, children like Sofia can emerge victorious from even the most challenging circumstances. Make a simple gift today to become part of a network that supports children in need.
